The Hollies' Greatest Hits

The Hollies

Rarely will I play a cd three times over before I write the review on it, but I did with the Hollies Greatest Hits. It starts with Bus Stop (#5 in '66) a love story that blossoms at the bus stop. Carrie-Anne (#9 in "67) an upbeat song about a guy trying to figure out a woman (good luck brother), I love the steel drum solo in the middle of the song. Look Though Any Window (#32 in "66) is just a fun song. I like the line "you can see the little ladies in their gowns when you look through any window." Stop, Stop, Stop (#7 in "66) is about a guys obsession with a local bellydancer. This songs has a middle eastern sound to it that's kind of cool.

Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) (#2 in '72) I believe this song is about an FBI agent trying to protect a woman who helped the FBI catch a gangster. "I told her don't be scared, cause you're gonna be spared and you're gonna be forgiven." After those great songs Dear Eloise was a very dissapointment addition. He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother (#7 in '70) is another Hollies classic. My sisters had the Osmonds version when we were kids. In 1963 Doris Troy hit #10 on the charts with Just One Look, here the Hollies did a very good remake. Did Linda Ronstadt do a version of it as well?

King Midas In Reverse is kind of annoying, but it does sound like my life story. Long Dark Road (#26 in '72) didn't impress me much but it did chart when it came out. Pay You Back With Interest (#28 in "67) Interest in this case has a double meaning. On A Carousel (#11 in "67) A very good pop song. The Air That I Breathe (#6 in '74) simply a song about a guy who is so satisfied from his most recent sexual experience that he doesn't want or need anything else. All he needs is the air that he breathes and to love her. Does she have a sister?

If this collection had included Jennifer Eccles (#40 in "68) and Stop In The Name Of Love (#29 in "83) then this would have been the perfect collection of Hollies hits. I forgot to mention The Air That I Breathe is a gold record and Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) went platinum. If you don't know what that means, it means, they sold a butt-load of records.
